Medea Utopia - 1994 KWPN Mare

ABOUT MEDEA...
Medea has such a grand "giving of herself personality" that there really are not sufficient words to describe what she has brought to her family, friends and the competitive arena.

Medea became part of Jutta's training barn in 2005 (in Texas) and when Jutta moved to Florida, Medea's Mom, Terri, made the decision to send her to Jutta because they had such a great rapport. In one short year (2006), Medea bloomed from being a solid second level, starting third level horse, to qualifying at both 3rd and 4th levels for Regional's and bringing home good scores and blue ribbons against solid competition in a strong competitive USDF region (3) at Prix St. Georges. The next season Medea qualified at Prix St. Georges and set a strong example in the circuit as a competitor to watch.

Always a kind and workmanlike mare, Medea brought unequaled work ethic to her training sessions and gave her heart and soul to her work. She also had an incredible personality - certainly Jutta will never forget those little extra "bits and pieces" she would put into her daily routine!

Medea didn't just love to compete - she also loved to play. I would say a highlight for her and her rider at the time would have to be when she went up to St. Simons Island in Georgia for a "beach" weekend. She'd gallop (or saunter) up the beach, play in the waves, swim across to the sandbars and take a half-lesson on the most perfect footing mother nature could create - self grooming, dark sand at low tide!

Mid 2007, Medea made it very clear to everyone that her clock was ticking and she wanted to be a mother. We listened and she was expecting in 2008. Unfortunately Medea was unable to successfully birth her beautiful baby girl that year and we lost the baby and very nearly Medea to severe complications and founder.

Medea rallied and once home from the hospital she began to slowly recover from her horrible experiences and loss and we all started to look forward to her full rehabilitation and recovery.

Devastatingly, on February 2, 2009, we lost Medea, after a 17-day battle to see her through a massive infection caused by a venomous bite. Medea rallied three times during her hospital stay and we really started to believe she would come home and we would all have a second chance. Regretfully, while medically her numbers looked good, clinically she was not going to recover.

We would be remiss not to mention how much we appreciate the efforts of our vet, Dr. Ted Oroski, and the professionalism of, and hard work put forth by, Dr. Barry David and the EMCO's caring staff on Medea's behalf.

There is SO much to miss about this one-of-a-kind mare... and it is impossible to nail it down to JUST one most special memory... However, ONE of those most special moments we will all miss would have to be her husky, throaty, one-of-a-kind welcoming nicker whenever her special people came near the barn!

We know this small competition pictorial tribute does NOT do her justice, but we hope nevertheless, as you view it, you will be able to get a sense of what she may have meant to us.

MEDEA - YOU ARE ALREADY MISSED!! WE LOVE YOU... (Take care of your sweet baby girl now...)
